Besides Heidelberg Castle, we also visited Hohenschwangau Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle in the village of Hohenschwangau.

Because we went on a weekend, the queue at the ticket office to purchase the tickets for the Neuschwanstein Castle tour was extremely long. There are timed tours and only a limited amount of people are allowed for each tour so we had to wait hours for our turn to visit the castle. We had a lot of time to kill before our palace tour started so we walked around the village nearby and the outside of Hohenschwangau Castle.

We purchased return bus tickets to get to the top of the hill where the castle is at. You can choose to take a 40 minutes walk up there but it was very hot that day so we took the bus. There are also horses that carry carts of 8 people up and down but that's just too cruel :(
The Marienbrücke (Queen Mary's Bridge) was so packed with tourists and we only realised why when we got to see a picture perfect view of the Neuschwanstein castle from the bridge.
Neuschwanstein Castle, the palace which was planned and commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century, is the most beautiful building I have ever seen. The entire architecture looks like it's from a fairytale, so unreal! The enchanted castle was even used as an inspiration for Hong Kong Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle.
The inside of the castle is just as grand as it is on the outside. The tour only showed us part of the castle which includes the King's bedroom, study room, dressing room, throne hall and a few more other rooms. Each room is decorated uniquely and has different paintings on them. We weren't allowed to take photos inside but you can see images of some of the rooms from the official website here.

The view of the village from the hill is absolutely breathtaking!!! You can even see the Hohenschwangau Castle from up there.
That's all for my trip to Hohenschwangau, stay tuned for more posts from my Europe trip !
