Winter Wonderland | Seoul, Korea

My mom, my sister and I spent our last Christmas in Seoul, Korea since me and my sister never experienced winter before. I will be sharing about the places I've been to along with some guides and tips about these places in this post so if you're planning on travelling to Seoul this winter, I hope I'll be able to give you an idea of the places you can visit !

**warning: this is going to be a lengthy post**

Accommodation
During our entire trip, we stayed in a room in Hongdae that we rented from Airbnb for RM1310 (5 nights). We shared the house with the host which means the kitchen and the toilet are shared. It's roughly 10 minutes walk away from the nearest subway station (Hongik Univ. station) so it was really easy for us to travel to other places. We were pretty satisfied with the place as it has almost everything that we need and the host was also very helpful. She even borrowed us a pair of shoes because my sister's shoes tore. If you're traveling with one or two of your friends I definitely recommend you to stay here. You can get more details and check for availability for this room and make your bookings here : https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16209582

Sign up for Airbnb here and get RM105 off your first trip of RM290 or more!

Transportation
Since we stayed near the subway station we travelled either by the subway or by foot. We bought a T-Money card for each of us which is a transportation card which you can top up money and use it on subways or public buses. It saves you the hassle to purchase a ticket for every ride so you can save a lot of time. We bought the card for 4,000krw (MYR12) for one and spent around 27,000krw (MYR108) each person in 6 days, which includes travelling to and from the airport. You can get them from most convenient stores and in the subway stations. I recommend downloading any Seoul subway apps in your phone so you will know which line to take and transfer to to get from one station to another so you will not get lost.

Day 1
  • Hongdae
We explored around the area nearby where we stayed when we arrived to look for something to eat. There's a lot of cosmetics and clothing stores here to shop in and a wide variety of restaurants to choose from so we had most of our meals here on other days as well. We joined the crowd and walked around here almost every night, this place is still so busy even after 9pm !

  • Haneul Sky Park
This is such a beautiful park for photos ! It's one of the parks of World Cup Park and it's the highest among the other 4 parks. It's quite a long walk from the nearest subway station so wear a pair of comfy shoes if you're planning to walk there because I made a mistake by wearing heels ! You can choose to walk up 291 steps to get to the park (ew) OR ride the mini shuttle bus that goes straight to the top of the hill but of course you'll have to pay a small fee for that.

World Cup Stadium, Exit 1

You can find your way there using Google Maps. Here are some places you'll pass by to get there-
World Cup Station

We took the shuttle bus but you can use the Haneul stairs if you want to walk up there

Day 2
  • N Seoul Tower
This is one of the most well known tourist attractions in Seoul. There's an observatory deck on top of the tower where you get to see a breathtaking view of the city (10,000krw/adult) but I think the view is good enough from the bottom of the tower since it's already pretty high up. We paid 25,500krw for 3 person and went up to and down from there by cable car because we were too tired to walk up after a long walk uphill from the station.

Myeongdong Station, Exit 3
From Myeongdong Station go out of exit 3 and continue south on Toegye-ro 18-gil street. When you reach the Pacific Hotel, turn left onto Toegye-ro 20-gil street. When you see the Ministop, turn right onto Toegye-ro 20-na-gil street. At the end of the street is the lower cable car station.

It snowed !!!

SNOW
  • Myeongdong
This is one of the best places to shop for Korean cosmetics and beauty products in Seoul. They have so many different shops and restaurants so you can spend your entire day here! Here you'll see many different shops of the same brands such as Innisfree, Etude House, Tony Moly, Nature Republic and many more so you won't be afraid that you'll miss any of the brands. They offer in-store promotions, discounts and free gifts. The more you purchase the more free items you'll receive it's hard not to buy more here.

Myeongdong Station, Exit 6

Stylenanda Pink Hotel !! One of the prettiest stores I've ever seen

Day 3
  • Namdaemun market
Here they have various types of goods sold, clothes, accessories, shoes, food and many more. They sell at affordable prices and they also have wholesale markets where you can get lower prices if you purchase more.

Hoehyeon station, Exit 5,6 or 7

  • Dongdaemun
We visited Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) which had a really photogenic exterior. Once it gets dark, the roses in the LED rose exhibition will light up so we waited until after the sun set before leaving.

Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Exit 1)

LED Rose at night

We had shaved ice in Wicked Snow for dessert which was right opposite DDP.

Chocolate 11,000krw

We walked around Dongdaemun market looking around and shopping while waiting for the sky to get dark to see the LED roses.

Dinner !

Day 4
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace
They say that you should visit at least one of the five palaces while you're in Seoul so we've chosen Gyeongbokgung Palace which apparently is the largest among all five of them. We were lucky that tickets were free on that day we went because there was some special festival. Usually tickets are 3,000krw per adult for foreigners. They close on Tuesdays so make sure you don't go on that day !

Gyeongbokgung Station, Exit 5

For lunch we had ginseng chicken soup at Tosokchon Samgyetang which is around 20 minutes walk away from where we were.

Gyeongbokgung station exit 2 》walk straight 170m turn left onto Jahamun-ro 5-Gil road 》10m ahead on the left

  • Bukchon Hanok Village
The area is home to hundreds of traditional houses and there are people who actually live in these houses so we have to be very quiet when visiting.

Anguk Station Exit 2

Day 5

There are a few universities in Seoul that have very pretty buildings and they're so picture worthy. We decided to go to Ewha Woman's University and Yonsei University since they're both quite near from each other.
  • Ewha Woman's University
Ewha Univ Station, Exit 2 or 3

  • Yonsei University
It's such a huge university! You have to take a 10 minutes walk from the front of the university to get inside to the main building.

Sinchon Station, Exit 2 or 3

So that's all I have to share about my trip to Seoul this time. If you're planning on going to Seoul anytime soon, I hope I helped and gave you ideas of places that you can visit :) I will be posting about my Korean beauty haul some time after I've tried all of the products that I bought this time, so stay tuned!

I also did a short video for my trip this round, hope you guys enjoy watching it :
