Althea Bare Essentials Review

I know I haven't updated this space in a long time, I was really busy with semester 4 and decided to pause blogging for a while. I'm back now and I'm so excited to share with you guys that I am now an Althea Angel! They sent over a package to welcome me as a part of their ambassador program. The package consists of Althea's Bare Essentials products and special gifts exclusively for Althea Angels which are a hand mirror and a makeup pouch, with a welcome message from Althea's head of creative communications, Tammy Lim.

There are three skincare products in the Bare Essentials Set, which are Contour Cleanser, Primer Water and Fixer Cream. These three products are specially curated to simplify your daily skincare routine and to give you a healthy complexion and nourished skin.

Contour Cleanser

This is a foaming cleanser with micro capsules to help gently exfoliate away impurities from the skin.  The main ingredients are ice plant which hydrates and calms redness, and lemon verbena leaf which is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants to strengthen the skin. It claims to improve blood circulation, giving a V-shaped look.

You can also use this cleanser as a facial mask one more time after cleansing for intensive treatment for blackheads, pores, dead skin cells and excess sebum. Just apply it on concerning areas and massage it for 30 seconds before washing it off.

I like how I only need very small amount of this product for it to lather up into a rich foam. Even though it has micro beads to help exfoliate, it doesn't feel rough at all so it's suitable for daily use. It cleans my face really well, in fact too well that I get the squeeky feeling on my skin after washing. It does feel slightly drying so I make sure I don't skip moisturising my face after that. However, I don't notice any improved and defined face shape as it claims.

Primer Water

This is a hydrating toner that preps the skin for absorption of other products. The key ingredients are snow lotus which smoothens and brightens the skin while evening out its texture, and a patented ‘dewdrop’ formulation which revitalises the skin and provides immediate, effective moisture to the skin. It claims to soften, improve suppleness and smooth out unevenness of the skin.

The consistency of this product is slightly thicker than a normal toner water, but it gets absorbed into the skin really fast so I can quickly move on to the next step of my skincare routine. My skin feels so hydrated and smooth after applying this Primer Water. It has a flowery scent which I really like but it goes away a while after applying.

Fixer Cream

This cream moisturiser claims to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin to plump them, providing 24-hour hydration to the skin. It contains Trehalose, a powerful humectant that retains moisture on the skin, wild green tea to hydrate and soothe, and baobab tree extract, a non-greasy moisturising agent that helps promote collagen production.

My first thought when opening this is that it doesn't come with a spatula, since the product comes in a jar, it would be unhygienic to dig the cream out with my finger. The product is a thick white cream, which I expected it to be difficult to be absorbed but it was surprisingly absorbed quickly without leaving my skin oily or sticky. It feels moisturising and it helps to give my skin a healthier and glowy look.

Overall, I really enjoyed using Althea's Bare Essentials line. I think it's a great start for those who are just beginning to follow a skincare routine since this is a very simple 3 step regime that is suitable for all skin types. Besides, the products from this line are also very affordable especially when you get all 3 in the set. You can purchase them here
